Rayner de Waltham is in his sixth year apprenticeship in London, preparing to become a Master of Painting, during the earlier years of famous artists such as Michael Angelous, and Leonardo de Vinci, of the fifteenth century. His master, Bartoldi de Cenelli, a transplant from the great art center of Venice and his studio, has taken a commission to do wall paintings in the manor of the rich merchant, Mansel de Romford. Rayner and Bartoldi become resident artists in Romford for the duration of the work. Rayner meets de Romford's lovely daughter, Sharla, and they fall in love. Her father thinks all artists are beneath his status. He is appalled when he finds that they have become betrothed and takes steps to separate them. Will love win out?
