Hard to put down! Have the Russians been using us?

My wife gave me this book as a gift. It did not have the Clancy or Ludlow author on the cover, so I was a bit slow to start on it. I was sure wrong with my prejudgement! I took it on a business trip and could not put it down. I was familiar with many of the places mentioned, I love geo-political suspence books, and it was clean. Around 1988, I was going out to Southern Utah quite often for work to test a new ejection seat for aircraft. We spent quite a bit of time at an old World War II era secret test facility called Hurricane Mesa, now privately owned. During many hours of "dead time" I enjoyed walking around the plateau looking at various relics, both the successes and failures of yesterdays high technology. This place would have been very impressive back then and still is today. The road leading to the mesa is not marked and there is no reason to think anything would even exist up there. As the author did, I too can easily visualize a secret Soviet military group utilizing this mesa and one of the surrounding canyons. With the newly elected majority of communists in Russia now, you have to wonder if many the authors fictional events have some truth to them.I'm anxious for the next title by Tim Andersen!

I could not put it down.

I found that it held my attention. It painted a word picture that was very suspenseful. Not only did I enjoy this novel, but my 16 year old son who is an avid Tom Clancey reader said, " It was more Tom Clancey than Tom Clancy."

Intrigue and suspense with every page.

I enjoyed this book immensely! With every page I was brought to places that were familiar to me. Tim Anderson eloquently writes about a time in history that many people in the world never expected to see in their lifetime. If you enjoy a book that contains a breathtaking thrill ride filled with honor, deceit, romance, and suspense, this book will keep you captivated. Intriguing!!! I could not put it down until I finished every page.

A whole new spin on th breakup of the Soviet Union

One of the most amazing events of my legal career was in 1990 when a group of Soviet businessmen showed up at my office in St. George, Utah and claimed that they had business to do with me. Although, I had done some international work, the task they assigned to me was far beyond anything a lawyer would be asked to do, in the state of Utah or anywhere else in the country, perhaps with the exception of New York City. Within days, I was in Washington DC (with an FBI tail) in negotiations with the World Bank regarding cutting the Russians a piece of the newly-created fund of the European Bank For Reconstruction and Development Then we were in Fort Worth, Texas trying to purchase the traveling Soviet Space exhibit from The Soviet Ministry of Culture on behalf of the Soviet Ministry of Aviation. The plan was to keep the exhibit in the US to be permenantly placed in a Russian Govenment built museum near Las Vegas. After about a year of work, the whole thing fell through with! the Gorboche coup (you know-the Yeltsin on the tank event) Eventually the Russians all went home, but not first without leaving their stories - explaiing in detail their KGB roles as they spoke of their hopes for a new Russia. Some of the tales were wild-haired and far fetched. But the wildest of all seemed to be directed at the question of the truth as to why the Soviet Union and the Eastern Block was caving with hardly a shot being fired. Hence, The Reign of the Stavka. What were so may KGB agents doing in the US posing as businessmen during the fall of Communism? The wild tales, the real stories and my wacko immaginaton are all merged to give you a good time between the pages of the Reign of the Stavka. Enjoy the read - and post your reviews.

A very intriguing well written book

This book held my attention like a Tom Clancy book. I am very familiar with the area of the country where the story is told. For a new writer I was very impressed with his style and detail. I have not seen any other books written by Mr. Anderson, but I will surely look for the next one.
