During 1912, the 4th Brazilian Workers' Congress was organised in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with reformist workers as organisers. Unlike revolutionary workers, they sought to change the conditions of the working class through political reforms. With the collaborative participation of then-President Hermes da Fonseca, we intend to observe the extent to which workers were co-opted or not, whether their actions stemmed from their own ideals or were part of a government plan, in addition to the political landscape of the so-called First Brazilian Republic. This analysis will be carried out through the press, with the discussion between workers in favour of and against the Workers' Congress, in which they explained their ideas on how workers should continue their struggles.
