In the voices of those who were there!

My seminary professors drilled into us students the importance of reading *primary sources* when doing research. This book is a treasure chest of primary sources. Hillerbrand lays the book out chronologically, giving us sharp "snapshots" of the Reformation (what led up to it, what triggered it, what forms it took, and how the Church reacted to it). Amply illustrated and with necessary background material between citations, the book gets 5 stars from me for its wise choice of material from the reformers (and counter-reformers) themselves.
