The Redemption: A Study of Exodus 1 - 18

The LORD said to Moses, "Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt" (Exodus 3:10). The book of Exodus is not just the historical recounting of Israel's departure from Egypt; it's the historical recounting of God's faithfulness. God told Abraham that his descendants would be enslaved in a foreign land, but when the time was right, God promised to free them, and so He did in a brilliant display of power that not even mighty Pharoah could stop. Through ten miraculous (and sometimes humorous) plagues, God revealed to the Israelites and the Egyptians alike that He alone is God.

But God did not free the Israelites so they could live however they wanted. Instead, God redeemed them so they could serve Him. God had a plan and a purpose for the Israelites to make them into a nation that would spread His glory and fame throughout the world, just as God has a plan and purpose for us to go and make disciples among the nations.

In this 9-session verse-by-verse study of chapters one through eighteen of Exodus, you will see how Israel's redemption story echoes our redemption story. Covered by the blood of the lamb, God brought the people out of slavery to Himself to live with Him, for Him, and by Him because that is God's hope for all people. In Egypt, at the Red Sea, and camped in the wilderness, God did great things so the people could know Him, and today, God has done something even more miraculous. He's given us salvation in Jesus Christ, freeing us from bondage to sin so that we can live with Him, for Him, and by Him for all eternity.
