The infrastructure of a previous high-tech civilisation is intact, but the population that built it has vanished.
The settlers adapt the vastly superior technology and within three generations develop a method of inter-dimensional travel that permits them to return to a time in history, just before a nuclear war destroyed most of the life on Earth. An advance team will fortify a sub-tropical island paradise to protect it from nuclear fallout. If they are successful, a new Garden of Eden will await the arrival of the descendants of the original settlers to begin life on Earth anew.
