While clearing out the possessions of his late estranged father, Captain Hughes discovers a wall covered in news articles and book clippings related to an unfinished mystery novel. The tale by Charles Dickens tells the story of a young man, Edwin Drood who disappears on a dark and stormy night, and the whole town falls under suspicion of his murder. The similarities, however, to a real life case which Hughes' father was exploring seem unavoidable. Determined to see this mystery to its end, the Captain enlists the imaginative Lieutenant Davis to investigate this long-standing crime and find the real Edwin. But with Drood's uncle already hanged for his murder, is it too late to prove his innocence and hunt for the real killer?
