"Rainbow Rainbow over my wild white wilderness. Beautiful and bright he was, more wonderful than anything I had ever seen before. I knew at once I had to catch a rainbow and make him mine. So I went after him. I went hunting for a rainbow." Snow Bear is so enchanted by the sight of a brilliant rainbow that he longs to soak up its colors for himself. But when his wish is granted, it brings great danger and sadness to his life. To save himself, he must become an ordinary snow bear once more--but how? It is a kind little boy who shows him the way.
This book is beautifully written and illustrated. A lovely story to enjoy but also to help children think about nature and environment with a great illustration of the moral 'be happy with who you are.' The reason I looked for the book is because I actually found the story on CD first as a fantastic orchestral score written by Stephen Barlow and narrated by Joanna Lumley. The music completely creates the mood of the story and inspires the listener to 'see' the colours of the rainbow, or hear the Polar bear being chased and to have empathy with the bear. The children I teach are loving it. Go out and get it!!!
