For 50 years, Rabbi Steven and Senator Joyce Foster have been leaders through their social justice work on issues of civil rights, gay rights, women's rights and mental health awareness. Through topics as diverse as interfaith marriage, legalized marijuana, and maintaining a strong marriage and family in the public spotlight, their story chronicles how religion and politics can successfully marry for the common good. Rabbi Foster spent 40 years at Temple Emanuel in Denver, Colo., as an assistant and senior rabbi. Joyce was the first Jewish woman elected to the Denver City Council, where she served for 10 years, and later elected to the state senate where she served for four years. They have traveled to Israel more than 30 times, helping emigrants resettle there, raising money for the Jewish Federations of North America, and bringing Christian leaders and congregants to better understand Israel.
