"The Pygmy Planet" by Jack Williamson is a science fiction tale that follows the adventures of Larry Manahan, an advertising agent yearning for excitement. His wish for adventure is unexpectedly granted when he receives a mysterious phone call from Agnes Sterling, the assistant to Dr. Travis Whiting, a scientist known for his work on atomic structure. Larry rushes to Whiting's laboratory, only to find it deserted, with signs of a struggle and a strange, miniature planet suspended between two beams of light. Agnes reveals that the planet is a result of Dr. Whiting's experiments with atomic structure, allowing him to observe the evolution of life on a tiny scale. However, the planet is now inhabited by machine-monsters with human brains, who have abducted Dr. Whiting and plan to sacrifice him to a machine they worship as a god. Determined to rescue Agnes and the doctor, Larry shrinks himself to the size of the Pygmy Planet and embarks on a perilous journey. He encounters the machine-monsters, witnesses the sacrifice of Dr. Whiting, and ultimately devises a plan to destroy the machine-god. With Agnes by his side, Larry manages to escape the Pygmy Planet and return to normal size, destroying the miniature world to prevent further danger. The story concludes with Larry and Agnes safe, having thwarted the machine-monsters' plans and found love in the process.
