The Puzzler - A One-Act Play Script for Two Actors That Delivers Heart, Humor, and Connection
The Puzzler is an award-winning one-act, two-person play perfect for dinner theater, festivals, or community productions seeking a heartfelt and thought-provoking experience. (Or dinner theatre, if you prefer the classic spelling.)
Weldon, a nursing home resident, meets Blanch, a spirited young woman doing community service for past mistakes. Reluctantly, she joins him at his table where he's working on a jigsaw puzzle. That simple act becomes a life-altering event. Through five poignant scenes (and an optional sixth), they forge a bond that transcends age, background, and circumstance-metaphorically and literally piecing together the puzzle of life.
This character-driven comedy drama blends wit, vulnerability, and emotional resonance. The structure naturally complements a four-course dinner theater format, with breaks between scenes offering ideal serving opportunities.
One church used The Puzzler as a fundraiser, raising substantial support for its restoration project.
The script includes a shortened 25-minute version first performed at a fringe fest. Videos and more info available at Will Holcomb's website.
