Life is like a solitary journey through the wilderness, with a fierce tiger named death lurking behind, a venomous dragon of greed, hatred, and delusion lurking beneath one's feet, and lifespan being gnawed away by black and white rats. Even when trapped in peril, humans cling desperately to those few drops of sweet honey--the cravings for food, wealth, sensual pleasure, fame, and sleep. Through this parable, the Buddha reveals humanity's true nature: fully aware of life's impermanence, yet still bound by desire and affliction, lost in fleeting pleasures. The Buddha revealed this harsh reality to illuminate the light that dispels the darkness--the fundamental vow of Amitabha Buddha. By placing unwavering reliance in Amitabha Buddha, even those in dire straits can attain salvation in a single thought, becoming beings assured of rebirth in the Pure Land. Thus, they attain "absolute happiness" beyond aging, sickness, and death.
