Psychopathy has been sold, sensationalized, and used to label individuals by the mainstream media. The mystery behind the adaption has worked in conjunction with some of the horrific crimes committed by psychopaths to drive the public's interest in the disease. The reality is that there are more psychopaths than we will ever know in society, and they are highly successful. It can be considered an adaptive trait that feeds on modern societies and allows individuals that have the disease to be highly successful. Cityscapes, large communities, and increased mobility will continue to allow psychopathy to be an advantage because new groups of people that follow a moral code are all that they need to use their glibness and lack of empathy to make nearly every social situation personally rewarding. Psychopaths are the most successful human parasites of our time, and they will continue to be well into the future as a result of modern living constructs. Capitalism has been the greatest wealth generator in the world, and psychopathic personality traits lead to increased success, wealth, and reproduction in modern, materialistic societies.
