The Psalter According to the Seventy

The monks of the monastery of the Holy Transfiguration are to be commended for this fine translation of the Psalter from the Greek Septuagint, the text used by the Orthodox Church for 21 centuries and by the western church up to the time of the Reformation when Protestants began to use the Hebrew Masoretic text. Those used to translations of the Hebrew texts may find some of the wording odd, and the numeration is also different, but this remains an excellent translation well worth owning. It is also available in a pocket size edition, but I prefer the larger type.

Tried and True

The psalms have always been the back bone of liturgical prayer in the Church. This one volume text makes it easy to incorporate regular use of the psalms in prayer. The only criticism is that the translation is a bit peculiar.
