THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club Pick "There is so much to relate to and throughout the novel, there is a sharp feminist edge. Loved this one, and you will... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I made it to page 67 and couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The main characters are a little too unrealistic for me even with the understanding that you should suspend your disbelief when engaging with fiction. I just didn’t see how their meeting would genuinely have led to the interactions they have and they seemed hamfisted and troped into their relationship. The male lead has assumptions about the female lead that sometimes border on racial stereotypes and while I didn’t feel uncomfortable, as a black woman myself, I rolled my eyes every time the male lead assumed this complete stranger should be angry or combative even when the exhibited behavior shows she’s actually the exact opposite. And the female lead wasn’t a likable woman to me. She doesn’t have to be perfect (no one is and that would be unrealistic as well) but she’s much more vapid and shallow than the first few pages would lead you to believe. She’s immature, a poor decision-maker, and for all the assertiveness she’s written with, still falls into the tired trope that the male lead should somehow assume she wants to be ravished. Instead of just saying so, she’d rather drop extremely ambiguous nonverbal cues which are then confirmed to be tactless and ineffective to the reader when the POV switches to the male lead who perceives her to be acting like a perfectly normal human and instead has to keep reminding himself not to behave like a creep. Except he is kinda creepy so…they both fail together I guess? I don’t know; this was a weird one and I’m not sure where all the praise for this author comes from or how people imagine she deserves it because character, plot, and premise aside, even her writing style is unappealing. I felt like I was reading something from a local amateur middle school writing contest rather than a best-selling author. Even the side characters felt like caricatures of real people, given lives because the author knows she can’t leave them to be empty husks despite their only use as the female lead’s dutiful servants. Or the side chicks to her Regina George.

Its so much better now that I read the first book! I didnt realize it was a part of a series but omg everything made so much more sense. I absolutely loved seeing Drew and Alexa in this story. And Carlos, having the background from the first book, was even better. Iloved everything about this story!! It was beyond sweet and adorable and funny. And it was just a good time read!! It had some steamy scenes, cute scenes, and some corny but so adorable scenes. I loved it! Made me so happy and thats what I needed. This book just made me happy ❤ if you need a feel good story, this definitely is it!
Fun little rom-com story

An easy-reading rom-com that certainly has an unusual beginning. It starts with a very public proposal and goes from there. I was never able to picture the heroine, Nikole, as a black woman, as she was written. I tried and tried to picture Nikole all the way through the book, but just was unable to visualize her the way she was supposed to be. I don't think I have ever had that happen before as I am usually able to visualize characters as what they are written to be. Other than that, it was a cute little easy read.
