Promised land is a term used to describe a place or situation where someone can expect to find great happiness. "The Promised Land" opens with London Maxwell believing that great happiness is something that will forever be beyond her grasp as she struggles to let go of the pain her husband's unfaithfulness has caused her, while staying by his side as he prepares to start a new life across the country. As London takes baby steps in preparing for this major change in her life, she can't help feeling like she is being forcefully uprooted from the home she has lovingly created for her family over the past twelve years. "The Promised Land" focuses on relationships as London leaves all of her friends, her divorced mother, and her in laws behind in Minnesota and forges a new relationship with her father and his second wife; in the end discovering that her promised land had always been within her reach.
