After years of trying to have a baby, Ken and Valerie Malcolm have decided to adopt.
Their adopted six-month-old, Chance, is the best thing to happen to their marriage, and to their life together, and the Malcolms soon learn to love him as their own.
When Chance is fourteen months old, Ken begins to notice strange things happening to, and around, his son-things which cannot be easily explained.
