At first glance, The Project chronicles the start-up of a gold and copper mine in the jungles of Indonesia, with all the interpersonal, intercultural and infra-structural dynamics such start-ups entail. Dig deeper and The Project becomes raising a troubled teenage boy. Ultimately, The Project distills down to one woman's life, and how she shapes it in the context of the many other Projects that comprise a life.
Candid, funny, painful - life as an expat's wife in Indonesia
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
A intimate nitty gritty detailed view of living as an expat in an Indonesian compound. Jana's husband has his work to occupy him, but Jana's life is a full rollercoaster of events and emotions: Frustration and pain in dealing with her teenage son, adjusting to the foreign culture, creating theme parties with the other wives for much needed entertainment. Jana doesn't pull a punch and her candid impressions of her fellow expats, friends, and relatives are always intriguing, sometimes catty, and often quite funny. Jana shows that true life can be entertaining and a pretty good read. (And my mom loved it too!)
