The problem of child soldiers in the DRC

The overall objective of this book was to analyze the problematic of the child soldier phenomenon in order to encourage the Congolese government and national and international NGOs to take the initiative in developing new strategies for demobilizing and reintegrating all child soldiers. We affirm that we have achieved this goal, and this study will contribute to a better understanding of all aspects of the demobilization and social reintegration of child soldiers. This work was guided by three assumptions: Insufficient social infrastructure is a problem in the demobilization and social reintegration of child soldiers; Insufficient job training and supervision of demobilized children hinders socio-professional reintegration; and The categorical refusal of military and rebel leaders to allow their soldiers under the age of 18 to participate in the DDR program is a challenge to the demobilization of child soldiers still on the move.
