Inspired by the true story of a daring deception that plunges a courageous young woman deep into the horrors of a Nazi POW camp to be with the man she loves. In the dead of night, a Czech farm girl and a British soldier travel through the countryside. Izabela and prisoner of war Bill have secretly married and are on the run, with Izzy dressed as a man. The young husband and wife evade capture for as long as possible--until they are cornered by Nazi soldiers with tracking dogs. Izzy's disguise works. The couple are assumed to be escaped British soldiers and transported to a POW camp. However, their ordeal has just begun, as they face appalling living conditions and the constant fear of Izzy's exposure. But in the midst of danger and deprivation comes hope, for the young couple are befriended by a small group of fellow prisoners. These men become their new family, willing to jeopardize their lives to save Izzy from being discovered and shot. The Prisoner's Wife tells of an incredible risk, and of how our deepest bonds are tested in desperate times. Bill and Izzy's story is one of love and survival against the darkest odds.
I couldn’t put this book down, I cried, I laughed. Maybe my new favorite book.

OH MY GOD !! This book was Excellent from beginning to end !!! I wish the system went higher than 5 stars, it certainly deserves more than that ! It is full of Danger, Family, Sacrifices, love and romance, and true Friendship ! It is written so well...you can almost feel the the pain of their different horrible ordeals, like starving beyond anyone's imagination, freezing and cold so bad, they experience frost bite on toes and hands that turn black, and burst open, thirst..that makes them drink muddy water, only to suffer with dysentery from it, and hunger so bad, that at one point they start to eat grass! Friendships that are all they have..each other through all their pain and suffering..they will do anything for each other...to the bitter end !! It is about the true love between POW of war Bill, and the farm girl Izzy, who meet at Izzy's farm..as the POW's are required to help work the hay fields and animals, anything really to help them as part of their work, capture detail. Izzy and Bill fall for each other to the point that Izzy leaves the family farm, and they go to Izzy's church and are secretly married. As they are on the run..trying to escape to a free country or find the resistance fighters, they are captured and sent back to the POW camp, where Bill has had a plan from the very beginning, that if anything were to happen ( like being captured) Izzy is dressed as a boy, who is shell shocked and has gone mute. This is where the story takes off ..from the camp.. and beyond ! Its Brilliantly written, emotional, and Captivating, with an easy flow and a"Can't put it down" quality. GREAT BOOK !! Highly recommend this book..you won't be sorry ! Author has included in the back of book..that the Major part of the story is real..that a Czech girl and British POW are married and go through the Camp together, in secret of what her gender really is. Though no one Knew her Real Name.So through real facts and investigations and different resources and her own imagination the story is built.
Great love story
