Book Overview

The Prisoners Of The King: Thoughts On The Catholic Doctrine Of Purgatory is a book written by Henry James Coleridge and published in 1882. The book is an exploration of the Catholic doctrine of purgatory, which is the belief that after death, souls may undergo a period of purification before entering heaven. Coleridge examines the historical and theological roots of the doctrine, and considers its implications for the faithful. He also addresses common criticisms of the doctrine, such as charges that it is unscriptural or that it encourages a lax approach to sin. Throughout the book, Coleridge emphasizes the importance of prayer and good works in preparing for the afterlife, and encourages readers to consider the possibility of purgatory as a means of spiritual growth and transformation. The Prisoners Of The King is a thoughtful and engaging exploration of an important aspect of Catholic belief, and remains a valuable resource for scholars and laypeople alike. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Prisoners of the King

Being a traditional Roman Catholic, I'm always thrilled to find good, solid, traditional books written before Vatican II. For me, this was a new one, which contains solid, old-fashioned Catholic truths. The author utilizes passages from the Bible to illustrate various facets of purgatory. This was a totally new concept for me, which I had never considered. This book is so unique that I bought this copy for a priest to help give him sermon ideas.
