"The Prince, the Princess, and the Bee" features the tale of Shimmer as she sets out in the hope of discovering her true heritage. When Princess Honeybee is born to Queen Beatrix, Sunny Patch holds a royal celebration for her birth. The festivities attract visitors from far and wide, some of which are planning to head next to the royal beetle ball in nearby Mushroom Glen. When Shimmer learns that the ball is held every year by Mushroom Glen's king and queen jewel beetles in the hopes that it might attract their long lost princess, she's determined to attend the ball. At first, it looks like she might be able to make, but soon she and her friends are flying high in adventure that shows that sometimes what makes us really royal comes from within. "The Prince, the Princess, and the Bee" aired as a television special in June 2006 and was released to DVD shortly thereafter. This book captures the magic of the special through its wonderful, eye-catching illustrations and the message offered in its text. Rather than a simple retelling, this book returns to the lyrical rhyming style seen in David Kirk's early "Miss Spider" works. It's a refreshing treatment of the story and a book that will no doubt be a treasure for any "Miss Spider" fan to have.
