An all too small collection of admittedly biased nostalgic narrative poems centered on the life and times of my daughter Meaghan. That photograph is one of my most precious things. You know, precious things, those things that are priceless, those things irreplaceable. Creased and frayed, I carried that picture in my wallet for nearly thirty years. I'm talking about the picture of my Meg of course, the picture on the cover of this book. Her Mom was out of town the week that it was taken, and Meg and I had been left at home, on our own. It was "picture day" at her preschool, and I think that you can sympathize, trying to corral a precocious always moving three year old is no mean feat. I thought her pony tails were straight, I really did. I think sometimes we get so caught up in the way we think things SHOULD have gone it blinds us to reality. Through the years that picture people said was such a big mistake. That picture people said I should'a, ought'a, had it taken over, has become for me the quintessential icon of her little girlhood. If I had the chance today, would I have had that photo done again? And miss this opportunity to see my Meaghan's soul? Not a chance my friend, not a chance.
