Showing Respect is an attribute!

Many years ago I read the classic "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. "The Power of Respect" rates right up there with Dale Carnegie's book. Deborah Norville teaches how to have respect for other people and she shows us how to do this in different ways and in great detail to help us to have respect for other people in our ever too busy lives. After reading this book I have a whole new respect for other people. I want to read it again.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T find out what it means to your life

The dictionary defines respect as "To feel or show deferential regard for; esteem" The author defines it as "Acknowledging the value and uniqueness of others and being mindful of their feelings, while at the same time trying to put myself in their position." The book shows how showing respect to people in different areas of life can lead to better results. It starts with self-respect which leads to positive thoughts and confidence which is the beginning of the path to success. If you respect yourself people tend to respect you also because of your actions and words. When you treat everyone in your life with respect they also appreciate it and tend to reciprocate. The authors shows through examples the importance of respecting your children and spouse for a much happier home life. She shows through studies the negative effects caused in business when management shows disrespect to employees, leading to under producing, theft, and good employees leaving the company. How do teachers get better results in the classroom? They respect their students and really get interested in them through communication and asking their opinions. This book really changed the way I think about the importance of respect, and how so many people problems have at there root someone who feels disrespected. When solving problems at work or at home the first thing I now ask myself is "Did this start because someone felt disrespected"? So far, the answer has been "yes" every time. I would highly recommend this book to revisit the crucial habit of respect. It could change your life for the better.

Deborah Norville teaches respect it the Power of Respect

Deborah Norville illustrates how respect is further reaching than respecting your elders or your boss. She shows the lack of, as well as the importance of, respect in the family, business, organizations, schools, etc. She even steps into the world of self-respect, and how closely this is related to our self-image and confidence. The book is focused on the simple but all-too-often belief that respect is simply treating people as though they matter. Deborah supplies scientific and specific evidence on the benefits of effects, ranging from extreme increases in student's test scores as well as the monetary savings in businesses. The book is filled with examples, studies, facts, stories, great quotes and tips. At first I wasn't sure how this book would relate to me, but in fact it covers all aspects of respect. She goes over the importance of not only showing those in your lives the respect they deserve, but also in how to subtly but firmly demand that same respect back. It is a great resource for not only bosses and leaders, but also parents, teachers, and anyone else who is in the position to teach and influence others on how to live more positively. It definitely made me think about how I want my children to treat me, themselves, and others. The book's message of the great personal benefits of respect, such as loyalty, trust, and mutual respect, are strong messages that I want in my home.

Life Changing Book

Deborah Norville, anchor of Inside Edition, makes a strong case for treating ourselves and others with respect in her new book, The Power of Respect. Norville highlights "the most forgotten element of success" not by sermonizing or giving a dry treatise but rather through the lives of real people and individual companies. She cites, among others, a man who blesses his wife each time he introduces her, schools that reward courteous behavior, and a boss who threatens to leave his company if his employees don't start treating each other with respect. Norville doesn't hedge when describing the effects of disrespect either, telling the tale of a company gone bad, a cheerleader beaten by her peers, and a bullied young boy who committed suicide. But it's not just about story, either. Statistics document the truth of Norville's observations. Quotations by teachers, students, restaurant owners, and husbands and wives weigh in alongside those of CEO's and other national leaders. Subjects include the power of respect at home, in relationships, at school, in business, for leaders, and for self. Each chapter in the book offers suggestions for improvement and concludes with a list of "Respect Reminders" helpful for review. Well-researched, well-planned and written in an engaging style, The Power of Respect presents a wealth of rewarding, and even life-changing, material.

Just The Book We Need

The Power of Respect (Benefit from the Most Forgotten Element of Success) by Deborah Norville is a breath of fresh air in an era of rudeness, violence, uncertainty, fear, selfishness, and low self-respect. What would it take to get society back on tract? Ms. Norville has made a valiant attempt in this book to suggest concepts and real-life examples to live by--helping hands; respect for our fellow man; faith in ourselves. The book includes inspirational quotes; motivational lists; and highlights of reflection at the end of each chapter. It also reminds the reader of the power of praise. The book looks at the power of respect at home; the power of respect in relationships; the power of respect at school (in my opinion, is very much needed); the power of respect in business; the power of respect for leaders; values in action--strength of character. Deborah Norville has been one of the most respected media personalities of our day; a bright beacon of grace, intelligence, kindness, and beauty. Because she has retained her self-respect and dignity, I feel she can speak with authority in this important new book. I completely enjoyed this and highly recommend it to other readers.
