In 1978 I was struck by the new Pope - John Paul II seemed like a good guy. So I wrote this story, got my dear friend Jack Oliver to do illustrations and printed up a few little booklets to give to friends and fans. All thousand disappeared in minutes. I sent some copies to the Vatican, since the Pope was a living human being, and I felt certain he would like it and hoped he would not object to a fictional story composed entirely in my imagination. To my surprise I got back a beautiful letter - from his assistant but dictated by John Paul, saying he loved the story and the illustrations and sending his blessings and love to me, my family and my friends. Many years later we see the last Pope Francis, who struck me as a fine and decent man, pass away. I thought the time was right to print up the short story again. Dedicated to both Popes - here it is. I hope you enjoy it. Kenneth (Jonathan) King April 2025
