Vic, a Yorkshireman, after 3 years with the English Police moved to New Zealand as a policeman. Years later he returned to Warwickshire to become a Bobby on a bicycle, in several towns and villages along the River Avon in rural England. In an era when police were mainly on foot or pedaling, without radios and unarmed, he was personally acquainted with virtually every shopkeeper, homeowner, drunkard and roughneck on his beat.
