William J. Murray, chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition in Washington, DC, author of "My Life Without God" and son of atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair, in his new book "The Pledge," maintains that anti Christian forces are attempting to change the "Pledge of Allegiance" in an effort to replace faith in God with an atheistic, secularist philosophy. Murray alerts the reader of the peril we face in America today of losing our religious freedom. Murray has defended his position on ABC, CBS, FOX, MSNBC, and NBC news programs. He is a regular guest on numerous radio talk shows. In "The Pledge" Murray introduces the Biblical concept of family, education, and the church in relation to government. He then traces the history of early-American settlers and their overall reliance upon God in every phase of life. Next he outlines today's secular progression in American society and alleges that war is being waged against religious freedom, as well as for freedom itself. I was particularly interested in the background of the pledge and of the history of the words "in God we trust" on our United States coinage. The recent court decision in favor of Atheist Michael Newdow is another instance of the powerful influence of secularists, on the courts, in an effort to destroy religious liberty. Murray concludes by showing the reader how they can fight back against these forces to maintain our religious liberty. Murray's arguments are clearly stated and his analysis is well articulated. "The Pledge" is timely, relevant, and important to every American. The book should be required reading for social studies classes, in public schools, Christian schools, and in home schools across America.
