The Plain White Envelope is a fictional story that revolves around the lives of 5 people who have seemingly come to the end of their rope as far as their lives go and they wish to end it all in various ways. To each of them suicide is the only option, but there are others who are aware of their plight, and even present at the time they chose to end it all. The book opens with Josh Turner, a man who has worked his way up from menial jobs to working in skyscrapers, yet he has another career he secretly desires to fulfill. Rebecca, Josh's wife, had grown up in much the same way as her husband, but they both have dreams for a better life, with children a home and good jobs, yet something stands in their way - their past!Jimmy Piccolo is a shifty character with no real ambition to succeed in life, other than petty crimes and living the low life. Angie Parker lives on the farm with her husband and three children, but her husband is controlling and she strongly wants to get out from under his control. Nora Belmont is a nurse who is living a tortured life due to her best friend, also a nurse. Shelly Gerber is a school teacher who is burnt out and uncaring of life, after the death of her family members, leaving her all alone in the world. Earl Haven is a young drifter with no real goals, even though he envies his brother's life.
