This chick can definately write a love scene! Whoa!

This is the first of Cheryl Howe's books I've read. I'll definately be picking up more, though it seems she's only written three and is now MIA. This is a shame. Though this book's plot was weak and the heroine even weaker, she won me over with her very erotic and to-the-point love scenes. Just so you know, that's not the only reason I read romances. I read them for the lead-up, like we all do. It's just that her writing seemed so common - until that first love scene between Nolan and Jewel - and then she had my COMPLETE attention. WOW! Ms. Howe loves to describe exactly what's going on in her character's minds, so much so, that she could drone on for pages before any dialogue popped up. However, this really served her purpose well in the more intimate scenes of the story. I believe if Jewel hadn't been such a sap (I hate a weak female lead), and had the plot been less predictable - it would have been a much better read. I give this one four stars - for the intimate scenes alone. Without them, I would have given it one star - and that would be for Nolan.

LOVED IT!

I throughly enjoyed this book. The plot and characters were very good and I could'nt put it down. Nolan was a sexy man and it was nice to watch his emotions and ideas change with the help of Jewel. She was strong and yet compassionate and was not afraid to stand by Nolan. They had great chemistry. Wayland was such a great character and well as Tyrell. Cheryl Howe is one of my favorite writers. You can always count on her for a enjoyable easy read. I highly recommend this book.

A very good Pirate read

This is the 2nd pirate book I've read, and I thought it was fun. There was a lot of comedy in it, provided by the first mate. Everytime he showed up in the book, I knew I was probably in for a treat! He was a crusty old sea dog with a lot of sage advice. The characters were awesome, my other favorite was Jewel. She was always willing to help, especially when it came to sword fighting.

This Pirate Just Might Steal Your Heart Too!

What a wonderful find! Cheryl's writting style, and characters are simply; unbelievable! This book was packed full of adventures so vivid I felt as though I was right there, part of the story myself, and her characters full of life. This book was a refreshing break from the scene of the ton which seems to me to be goingly popular with historals lately. Her characters unique and vibrant, the love making scenes hot and steamy (not always found even with otherwise good writters). The hero, Nolan, is haunted by his past as he finds himself besotted with the girl of youthful longings, but she's also his nemesis' daughter. She, Jewel, head strong, full of determination, wiser and full of courage beyond that of many men, finds herself pinned between the man she loves, the past that haunts him, and the realization that all her childhood dreams of the father she never knew would never be, and never had been. And the adventure that ensures will have you up all night reading until you've finished that last page!!You've gotta read this one! It's a keeper! Thanks Cheryl, for such a great adventure!

ocean fresh pirate romance

In 1775 Charles Town, South Carolina, while working at a tavern Jewel Sanderson wonders how her life could have fallen apart to the point that she considers marrying Latimer Payne who she detests. Nothing nasty has occurred, but without a word from her swashbuckling father for five years, Jewel has no future. Ironically, she still holds the treasure map that her father gave her the last time she saw him.Her dad's protégé Nolan Kenton arrives to pick up the map that Jewel holds. Jewel has loved him ever since she was a little girl, but he always treated her like a much younger sister. He admits to himself that she has blossomed into a beauty. Nolan has retired from piracy, but as a colonialist privateer the work is identically dangerous. He leaves with the map, but she sneaks onto his ship. Once he discovers his stowaway, he knows it is too late to turn back. As they become reacquainted as adults they fall in love. However, he keeps one secret about her father that if Jewel learns it their relationship will be dead in the water.Though the secret (I refuse to reveal it even under the threat of walking the plank) and pirate romances have been often used (see Ms. Howe's THE PIRATE AND THE PURITAN), the story line is ocean fresh due to the graphic sea battles and the deadly weather. The lead couple is a delightful pairing of two courageous individuals while the support cast makes the voyage seem so real readers will feel the dampness. Fans of pirate, whoops change that to privateer, romances will see how this is a fine tale.Harriet Klausner
