Five children on vacation in Maine, in the town of Old Orchard Beach, discover an old police report which tells of an airplane landing on the beach there seventy five years ago. It had set down in middle of the night with no warning, and then right under the noses of the police mysteriously disappeared. Neither the plane nor pilot were seen again and the story was hushed up and forgotten about.

Following a clue, the children realize the mysterious airplane played a part in one of the greatest mysteries of the twentieth century. Now if they can find the missing pieces to the story, they just might solve the riddle of what became of one of the greatest American women ever, the pilot Amelia Earhart.
