As control slips from human hands with the failure of a system that could not sustain itself in a hostile world, the remaining recognizable 'people' begin to mix and mingle in a dance of interbreeding and mutation that brings both wonder and terror. Life, as it always does, finds a way. Soon there are powerful hybrid beings with the capability to shift both in shape and dimension. Having had nothing but dismal failures in experiments meant to produce offspring, the humans had never considered what would happen if they coupled with the insatiable Bearers. Nor did they anticipate the hidden group, known as the Performers.
