Can a Christian really be perfect this side of Heaven?Of course not, but God calls us to be perfect. And against the standards of God's perfections, our imperfections are glaring-yet he does not... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Every Christian should read this book to understand that true salvation is evidenced by our life. We do not work to be saved, but because we have been saved. This controversial book of Scripture is easily understood by the author's unfolding of it. Great doctrine and wonderful illustrations make it a must read for any serious Bible student.
How to Live Now That One's a Christian.......

THE PERFECT CHRISTIAN is a Christian Living genre book written in the unique Evans' down-to-earth style, full of illustrations, clarity, sound teaching, and chuckles. It is pretty much an applicational commentary on James, a New Testament book that's practical but somewhat controversial due to its discussion of the importance of "works" (doing good) for the Christian, emphasizing that works do not contribute to salvation, but that faith-based salvation evidences its genuineness by works. I recommend this book for those not content to just "get saved" or "make a decision for Christ," but who want to move on with living the Christian life. In particular, those from a Catholic, rabbinical Jewish, or other works-based religious background might especially find this book clarifying, since the role of works is viewed differently by those religions as compared to the Protestant view. One consistent quality of Tony Evans books, they have a 3-fold strength: doctrine, delivery, fun to read. Though it's in hardcover and so of a price, I don't regret having spent the $$ for it since its a book worth rereading.
Almost perfect

Evans delivers a great study of the book of James. It's compelling, well-written stuff, filled with the sort of real-life examples that Evans is so good at. You will learn how to better curb your tongue, avoid prejudice, and encourage your brothers and sisters in Christ. If I have any complaints, it is only in the area of faith/works. Evans caves into conventional wisdom here to perpetuate the myth that your salvation can never be lost, even if you never exercise your faith with works. This wouldn't be such a big problem if the passages he quotes in James didn't say the exact opposite thing. (Read James 2:14-26).Otherwise, an amazing book, which will uplift you and challenge you to a greater and more productive faith in the Lord.
In The Perfect Christian, Tony Evans calls believers back to God's demand for perfection. Evans draws from biblical teaching and unforgettable anecdotes to offer heart-grabbing insights. Based on solid Bible teachings from the book of James, Evans comments on such essential questions as how to resist temptation, balance faith and works, control our tongue, and know the power of prayer. Although perfection is an always elusive goal, The Perfect Christian will material and substantially aid the reader to achieve a new level of spiritual life, power, and victory over adversity resulting in an improved spirituality and growth in the Christian faith. The Perfect Christian is wonderfully insightful, supportive, and recommended for all truth seekers and students of spiritual progress within a Christian perspective.
