Do you enjoy Christmas movies each year as I do? In particular, I mean the made-for-TV ones that rain down every December. According to these films, there's no shortage of women who are stuck in bad relationships. Their dreams and happiness are held back by their stuffy, jerky fianc?s, most egregiously at Christmastime. The subsequent plot unfolds invariably like this: the woman meets the Perfect Guy, a man who loves Christmas-and also happens to be fun, fit, and, most importantly, single. These movies all wrap up the same way: the woman dumps her stuffy boyfriend at the very last second for that Perfect Guy, her proverbial Christmas wish come true. All because Christmas romance is magic, of course! Cue the kiss, fireworks, and gentle snowfall! We now have life captured in a glossy red gift box.

The Peppermint Dog unwraps that pretty little box. It is a story of what might happen afterward with more realistic consequences. Because in real life, people aren't the gingerbread cutouts we see on TV. Honestly, we're more like fruitcake than gingerbread, as you shall see.

And, man, do I love fruitcake!
