The Pembroke Path is a very real place in Wales, a country where history and fantasy intermingle. While on a book tour through Great Britain, American author Sarah Morgan is drawn to reports about the disappearance of eleven young women along the popular coastal hiking trail. Upon overhearing a fellow train passenger speaking by phone about doing away with a woman, she suspects that he is behind the crime. Alternating her book tour duties with research into the backgrounds of the missing girls, Sarah learns about ancient Welsh mystics, the national devotion to music, and legends that permeate the contemporary culture. Is there a connection, she wonders, between the missing girls and tradition? Along the way, she meets several people whose lives soon become entwined with hers. Encouraged by her London publicist, a newspaper editor, two amateur archaeologists, parents of the missing girls, and an American traveling with her unpredictable teenager, Sarah uncovers the reason behind the disappearances and learns the true agenda of the man on the train.
