Excellent book about the history of organ transplantation. I red it about 30 years ago in different language. I recommended it to my son, medical students, he likes it also. I purchased already 4 pieces for him. He use it as a gift to his friends and fellows.
A must to read for all medical professionals

I am a Registered Nurse working in the Critical Care and Emergency area for years. Often I see patients after transplant (heart, kidneys), some of them as "redo" that means patients after second transplant of a particular organ. Also, often I see patients awaiting for organ. From the other hand sometimes I have to deal with families in grief, when we are the first team to ask them for an organ (organs) of their loved one. Occasionaly we have patients with LVD (Left Ventricular Device) which helps the very weak heart of patient awaiting heart transplant. Patients with prosthesis (i.e. mitral or aortic valve replacement) are our "daily bread". The book "The Patients" of Jürgen Thorwald opened my eyes to the other side of the bed, on PATIENTS. Now, I can understand much better THEIR anxiety, determination, hope, faith in us. Though I had read this book years ago, I'm coming back to it so often. This book is really a must to all of us - medical professionals. "The Patients" should be publish again. Frank Janiszewski, RN (FrankJRN@aol.com
