Some individuals experience situations in which a sensory stimulus such as a sound, smell, taste or vision of a specific image causes the clear and immediate reaction of another sense. These situations are commonly referred to with the term synaesthesia, a perceptual phenomenon in the course of which a single sensation manifests itself through the combination of two or more sensory modalities.
