The Path to Excellence: Your Future (Preparing for Your Future)

The Path to Excellence is a life guide, study guide and careers guide. It uses the successes of our athletes to motivate the reader to work towards excellence in their personal life as well as in their education and career preparation. Success starts in the mind and chapter one is about mastering your mind. It explains how to develop a personal philosophy, how to handle frustration, how to handle rejection and how to make good choices. Chapter two describes what makes a winner. It shows how to develop a positive attitude, the importance of making a commitment and how to change your "luck". Chapter three teaches education planning and action. It shows: How to plan for success in your education How to make a homework timetable, a study timetable, and a revision timetable, and How to be successful in examinations. Career choice and preparation is addressed in chapter four. The areas covered are: Choosing a career How to learn about job openings How to get that job To fill in an application form To write a successful resumé Successful interview skills Chapter five shows that it is the way that we live our life that will lead to a life of excellence. It is the purpose that we identify for our life that will make our life meaningful and celebrated long after death. Who is the book for? The book is written for students, parents who would like to help their children and everyone returning to study and/or work. With lifelong learning in mind, we are all students, so everyone can benefit from the principles covered in the book. What led me to write the book? As a form tutor and head of technology at high school level for many years, it was part of my duty to counsel students on planning their education and careers choice. I found that many students had not given much thought or were not prepared in a structured way by the school to make important life decisions in these areas. I wanted to contribute to the development of our students across the nation as well as to provide a material that fellow professionals can use with their students.
