This book is a good beginning. It's definition of the two different types of powers, are its strength and provide a good jumping off point for contemplations and discussions of power.Nouwens breif, but succint, exposition on the abuses of "religious" power are well-written. His discussion on powerlessness is totally rooted in the image and life of Christ. He touches too briefly for me on what would be the truly central theme of this book, which would be the power of a total and absolute dependence on God. And what that would mean. And how it would feel. And how it might even be recognized.Henri Nouwen is a spiritual master and yet some of his works are bathed in the sorrow of one who has faithfully served "the church" and yet never been set free. In this vein, he draws a melancholy "conclusion" that leaves one a bit saddened by it all.
