biography of priest and peacock

This is a well written book. It shows Sheen as both flawed and saintly. The book will be a disappointment to those who see their saints as carved in marble. This portrait is of a Sheen who is brilliant and blemished, priest and peacock, saint and vain. It gives an interesting personal biography, as well as interesting insight into the Church politics of that era.

The Beloved Archbishop

This book is passionate about its topic, Archbishop Sheen, but it is not a flattering portrayal of America's Beloved Bishop and I, too, found it disturbing. Yet there is something about the book that propels the reader on and in spite of the blatant finger pointing by the author, the readiness to expose the Archbishop's sins to the world, your heart still reveres the Archbishop. In the end the reader snaps the book shut with a different take on Fulton Sheen's life, one that is remarkably human and heart wrenching. The Archbishop was a wonderful man, generous to a fault, and my opinion remains unchanged by the author's obvious jealousy.
