The Passable Cook

The Passable Cook, taking place in De Smet, South Dakota, in 1947 is a heartwarming tale of resiliency, where the warmth of home cook meals and the uniqueness of human connection paves the way to wholeness and a love that defies the constraints of time.

Hanna Morland carries the weight of grief at the loss of loved ones and because of WWII. Her ordered world is disrupted by the appearance of a new vicar and of four small that eventually worm their way into her heart.

Amidst the post-war backdrop, an unexpected romance begins to blossom. The Passable Cook is a touching story of healing, the enduring strength of community and the discovery that we are all capable of being an exception especially in the face of life's greatest challenges.

The Passable Cook kept me reading....

This book really engaged me! I'm not normally a fan of books written in a diary or letter style, but this one kept me turning the pages wondering what the next day would hold for Hanna. I was saddened by the tough times and dark valleys but felt like I could relate to the realness... I enjoyed getting a feel for what the years shortly after WWII might have looked like. I felt like I was there with them. The multiple story lines were fascinating to me and I enjoyed seeing how they all came together. The humor in the book had me laughing! A thought provoking book with a very tangible realness to the emotions that come and go every day.
