Book Overview
There was nothing wrong with Alex Thorne's meetings. His executive team agreed on everything, fast. No red tape. No dissent. Pure alignment - right up until a night-shift security guard nudges him toward a bank of monitors and shows him the truth: three of his most senior leaders, standing in the parking garage in the dark, having the real conversation they'd just performed their way out of having in the room.
The Parking Lot Huddle is a business fable about the gap between what teams say in front of the boss and what they actually believe - and the very real cost of that gap. When Alex tries to fix it by demanding radical candor, he doesn't get honesty. He gets noise: a culture so busy manufacturing objections that his health-tech startup, racing to beat a well-funded rival to market, stops shipping anything at all.
Caught between a paralyzed team and a launch deadline that won't move, Alex has to find a third option - one that isn't about being agreeable or being combative, but about knowing which decisions deserve a real fight and which just need someone to make the call.
Following Alex, his COO Sarah, his head of sales Marcus, and an engineer named Ben who is quietly carrying a piece of data that could sink the company, The Parking Lot Huddle is a fast-moving story for any leader who has ever left a meeting feeling good about a decision - and then heard, secondhand, what the room actually thought.
