The Paranormal Part of Me

I used to sleep like the dead.
When I was a teenager, I convinced my mother to let my grandfather paint my bedroom deep, midnight blue. On a moonless night, it was like lying in a sensory deprivation tank. I felt comfortable and safe in my blacked-out cocoon.

In 1975, when I was 15 years old and about 10 years into my experiences, I would be lying in bed, wrapped in my blanket of darkness, asleep, when something would wake me. I would look around the room, the house silent, my parents and my brothers asleep. No noise came from outside.

Out of the darkness I would hear a lilting voice call to me.

This is the story of my very average life that is, to this day, often interrupted by unexplainable events. My normal, it seems, is somewhat paranormal. Thankfully, I've kept my sense of humor through it all.
