The Panther's Sons is Ron Barney's debut alt-history novel on the life of Jesus as told from a non-Christian perspective. At the beginning of The Panther's Sons, we find Miriam facing severe abuse at the hands of her grandfather Herod the Great and his heir to the throne, Antipater II, also known as The Panther. After the deaths of both men she makes her escape from the court to Qumran to give birth to her twin sons and live a quiet life away from court, escorted by Yosef, her aunt's royal administrator. The Sons grow up with different ambitions, Yehudah to become a warrior, and Yeshu to seek out the mystery of a gold medallion left at his birth by three mysterious men from the East. Eventually Yehudah becomes jaded with the whole idea of war and gets involved in a Roman plot to create a new philosophy in Judea intended to pacify the Judeans and make them less likely to revolt. He finds out all too late that the bringer of that philosophy is to be his own brother. Mystery, adventure, plot twists, and gritty court intrigue await the reader on an epic journey through Roman Judea, Egypt, India, and lands beyond.
