Researchers are still studying and discussing the details of Paleo-Indian migration to and throughout the Americas, including the exact dates and routes taken. The traditional theory suggests that these early migrants moved into Beringia, the land bridge between eastern Siberia and present-day Alaska, around 17,000 years ago. In Connecticut, a survey of Paleo-Indian sites was conducted to verify and more accurately record and plot the distribution patterns of these sites throughout the state. The objective of the first phase was to identify the areas where Paleo-Indian artifacts had previously been recovered, while also reviewing and comparing verbal and written documentation to validate the locations of these sites and the artifacts that were found.
