Misguided and dangerous

A white man’s temper tantrum against women, POC, and LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking to reclaim colonized spiritual heritages that will hold space for them in a way that evangelical Christianity refuses to. One wishes we had moved past the times when we blamed men’s lust on women, censored personal rights, and attacked people’s rights to freedom of religion. The author talks like a conspiracy theorist, believing any religion not considered “Christian orthodox” is satanic and Marxist in nature, that abortion is a “death cult” making blood sacrifices to the goddess, and that the end goal of pagans is to create a one-world government with a technological hive-mind. For a religion that is meant to center around love, all this author seems to spew is fear-mongering at best and disrespectful condescension at worst. In addressing the sins in Christianity’s past such as the crusades, the support of slavery, the repression of early scientists, the antisemitism in WWII, etc., he either blatantly dismisses them as “novel” and “human mistakes” or denies their existence entirely. Any counter-arguments are met with short-winded biblical truisms that ignore any discussion of biblical context and development. I would like to believe that the author came into this piece with good intentions, but he quite literally wraps it up by speaking of how tempting coercion and force is to uphold Christian standards and how he would “like to allow religious freedom, if possible”. These are dangerous sentiments, lacking any basis in the empathy and love of Christ. No wonder people are turning away from the present day church.
