Billy White Hawk leaves his Idaho reservation in search of a better life in California, where instead he encounters hatred and hostility that are increasingly difficult to cope with.
This book is about a young Native American who leaves the reservation to go to school in the city. He faces tremendous challenges in a world bent on his destruction. I enjoyed this book very much. I was glad that the book ended the way it did rather than on a negative note or on an unrealistic "dream-come-true" note.
