New Ideas I Didn't Find Anywhere Else

As a practitioner with responsibility for strategic outsourcing at my financial services company, my colleagues look to me for new ideas and ways to leverage outsourcing as a management tool. This book introduced ideas I hadn't seen anywhere else, especially in Chapter 4: A New Outsourcing Value Model. The methodology for tying outsourcing more closely to our company's strategy was very helpful. The expanded financial model that considers flexibility, acceleration, innovation along with more traditional business factors has helped sharpen our focus. Other ideas like Zero-based Sourcing have given us new ways of thinking about and communicatng our outsourcing plans. This is an important book to read if you have strategic responsibility for outsourcing at your company, or if you advise others.

Outsourcing is a $6 trillion global industry and is a hot topic not only in business but in the daily papers, where workers displaced complain and employers saving money face the pros and cons of outsourcing. Good overview

Bought this book to get an overview of managerial issues in outsourcing. Corbett doesn't disappoint. He clearly lays out the high-level issues to think through as one approaches a large-scale outsourcing project. A lot of the issues discussed are highly relevant for large complex companies with a lot of internal politics and silos.

Impressively, he takes great strides toward achieving just that. Clearly written and easily readable, his book refutes exaggerated concerns about job loss while providing nuts and bolts advice on getting started, picking a leader for your outsource project design team, negotiating contracts and maintaining your relationship with your outsourcing vendor. He makes a sound case for a strategic approach to outsourcing as a potential primary driver of the global economy. We find that his comprehensive treatment of outsourcing issues makes this a must-read for anyone who seeks a better understanding of the outsourcing phenomenon, particularly executives thinking about dipping their toes into offshore waters.
