The Orphan Elephant Herd is a story of survival. We follow a baby elephant orphaned by poachers through several years into adulthood. She travels many miles against near impossible odds to survive. Although receiving some help along her journey, she must learn to live a life different from the one intended-a life with friends, not family. She has to learn how to become a properadult elephant.Visiting distant lands has always held a great fascination for the author. This story is set in South Africa and depicts both the beauty and the harshness of life in the wild.The author has always loved writing, but her life weaved across many paths before reaching a place where writing could be prioritized. She feels fortunate to have spent much of her lifeserving children in the public schools in Arizona.
