In The Origins of Edith, two parallel storylines journey through the lives of two women: Edith and her daughter, Sam. Edith is struck with tragedy again and again and each time struggles to forge a new life from the debris. Will there ever be an end to her heartbreak, or will she be pushed past the breaking point?

Sam's life is molded by struggles of her mother, which have created a rough and dogged life for her and her three sisters. Sam clings to her anger against her mother as a way to stay strong for the people who need her, but the same anger that motivates her to change, also creeps into the new relationships she's created.

Both Sam and Edith struggle to let go of the past and the myriad ways it has broken them, even as they attempt to glue together a good life from the scraps and shards they have left. Perhaps some wounds can never fully heal, or perhaps they've just been neglected so long that they seem impossible. Can Edith and Sam find a way to reclaim the broken lives that they've been given in time to mend their own shattered relationship?
