The Orange

The Orange is a high concept, and truly inspiring story with a depth of feeling and emotion in characters, their thoughts and dialogue. Homeless and poor seventeen year old Aaliyah Bradshaw is determined to conquer the most highly interactive and played sport 'The Game'. Through harsh and painful trails and tribulations, and near death circumstances she continues to ascertain herself to follow her dream of being ranked 1 in this mass media platform. On the path to doing so she comes to admire Marwan Moonif, a boy who had immigrated from Syria at the age of ten and after having left his home at the age of 17 had become Rank 1 only after 7 months, a feat that has left the world in awe and great mystery, as no one knows how he had accomplished such a task. Past revelations of both characters when they were young and in the state of being in poverty and in their homes, and what their attachment with their family was like is heavily shown and is something of great anticipation. Loneliness, a feeling of darkness, and emptiness is cradled in the very depths and core of both Aaliyah and Marwan. How they overcome these darknesses, or at times even embrace them is well established in the plot of this story. A thought provoking and exciting story ""I love you, dear. Know that you are beautiful for who you are on the inside," is what my mom always used to say to me right before she went off to work the overnight shift. I watch my mom who's wearing a fast-food place's black uniform, walk to our front door. Strapped over her shoulder is her small, black handbag, and as she leaves to go, it sways back and forth a little. When she reaches the door, the swaying stops. She looks down at her black, safe-slip shoes, slips into them, then looks at me and smiles. She waves me a goodbye. And Mom, I too would stare at you, only sadly―but I smiled back at you just to show you I was alright―even though I wasn't. Then Mom would step out, closing the door behind her. The sound of the door closing was always very distinct to me. It announced that I was alone now, in a two-bedroom apartment.I can see a black sky outside our small apartment window. I look at it for a while. It looks lonely. "
